Our dog-friendly cottage is an ideal relaxing retreat with the Pennine hills and Pennine Way nearby, perfect for those on a walking or cycling holiday. Near 2 national cycle trails, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are also only a short drive away - Ullswater 17 miles, Kirkby Stephen 13 miles - a good central location for touring the area.
We have a wonderful variety of birds in our 3 acres of garden and woodland. Wild flowers abound in our spring and summer flower meadows, together with a large wildlife pond at the end of the garden. By the pond, you see a panoramic view of the Northern Pennines & High Cup Nick
Night at the Museum
Built in about 1894, Holly Lodge still retains some of its original Scots Pine cladding, this Cumbrian cottage is a cosy retreat. It has views across both the Lake District Fells & the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (better seen from the end of the garden by the pond).
Our dog friendly holiday cottage Holly Lodge is attached to The Hollies, a former gentleman's residence. The lodge itself was built as a museum by the then owner, for an army officer, possibly his brother, returning from war, to house his game trophies and his billiards table. It was later converted to use as a 'granny annex' by adding a lean-to bathroom extension which has now been demolished as part of our renovations & replaced with a fully accessible wet room & accessible kitchen. Outside the back door is a Mobility scooter charger point.
Holly Lodge is now being managed for us by Sykes Cottages but please phone if you would like to discuss anything or book direct with us. Anyone booking direct will receive a 10% discount.
